Baan Krua Nua Hand-Loomed Thai Silk Decorative Pillow Covers in 3 Colors

$75.00

This series of pillows is Thai hand loomed Thai silk is available in 3 colors: Pink Dawn, Cantaloupe and Blue Dusk.

Cantaloupe
The Cantaloupe cover is hand loomed Thai silk on one side and reverses to Italian linen on the back. The 100% Thai silk melon hue is a color of summer, formed by reddish orange threads in one direction, woven through with yellow threads. It appears solid, but it shifts in the light to reveal a reddish or gold tinge. This nuance is somewhat visible in the photos. In the shade, the silk catches light with a glow.

Reverse side is a high quality Italian made linen in contrasting threads of reddish orange and white, coordinated to the front.
Front is backed with cotton to reinforce silk.

The Blue Dusk pillow cover is the color of the sky when the last rays of the sun are disappearing. This atelier's silk glows as it catches light. It is shot through with black threads, giving it variations in nuance and intensity of blue, and shadows as it shifts in the light.

Reverse side is a dark caramel-colored synthetic fabric.
The front is backed with cotton in order to reinforce the silk.

Pink Dawn
This pink is at the same time intense and subtle, as it is formed by lilac threads in one direction, woven through with yellow threads. It appears solid, bright pink, but it shifts in the light, it assumes a gold tinge. This nuance, somewhat visible in the photos, makes a bright color subtle. Its light-infused quality reminds me of the delicate Homeric epithet, rosy-fingered dawn.

Reverse side is a high quality Italian made linen in contrasting threads of pink and white, coordinated to the front.
Front is backed with cotton to reinforce silk.

About Rare Baan Krua Nua Hand Loomed Thai Silk from an Original Jim Thompson Supplier:

This fabric is composed of contrasting threads which make it appear a solid color that changes as it moves in the light, an optical quality which makes this silk appear to glow, even in a dim room. It is from a pedigreed, historic workshop, one of the last remaining in the traditional Baan Krua Nua silk weaving community, Bangkok, Thailand. The owner's father was an original supplier of Jim Thompson in the 1950s-60s. This workshop uses only foot-pedal powered looms without electricity, produces only a very limited volume of silk, and is one of the last remaining vestiges of historic Thai silk production. Nashville Interiors featured our visit to this workshop.

Variation in texture in the fabric reflects the 100% artisanal fabrication of the silk, made using a vintage Thai process and equipment.
